7/26/2021 – The Amazing Noah

Noah’s update:
Good news is his counts are rising but slowly. We thought we’d hear better news tonight and could possibly be discharged but his counts weren’t high enough.
WBC 1.15
Neutrophils 5.0
Platelets 75 (yay)
Monocytes 21
Hemoglobin 9.5 (thanks to the transfusion)
ANC 69
They will come and take his blood for another CBC at 4am so I should have an update in the morning.
Praying that his body does it’s thing overnight. He is ready to go home. It’s so hard for him being inpatient when he feels good and energized and no way to burn off his energy.
But he is getting there…!!

Symptoms

ALL symptoms start when leukemia cells crowd out normal blood cells in bone marrow. The types of symptoms your child has will depend on the numbers of cancer cells and healthy blood cells.

Children with B-cell ALL may:

Bleed or bruise more easily than usual

Feel very tired

Get infections more often

Lose their appetite

Other symptoms include:

Bone or joint pain

Limping

Fever

Pale skin

Red or purple spots called petechiae on the skin

Swollen lymph nodes in the neck, underarms, or groin

If the cancer cells travel to your child’s liver and spleen, these organs can grow large enough to make the belly swell. In some boys, the testicles can also grow larger.
